WHAT IS ESOL?
People come to the Baltimore and Carroll county area from around the world for education and jobs. For many internationals learning English helps with daily life and opens doors of opportunity. ESOL is designed to help people learn English. E.S.O.L. is an acronym for the term “English for Speakers of Other Languages.”
Covenant of Grace has been offering free ESOL classes to the public since 2009. Students from as many as 33 countries have participated in Covenant’s ESOL program. Our ESOL English classes are offered as a service and do not require grading or credits. Our classes focused on reading, writing, speaking, listening, vocabulary, grammar, and conversation with the goal of preparing students to use English for everyday life.
WHO CAN ATTEND ESOL?
Any adult who would like to learn English is welcome! Students who attend have an opportunity to learn English and practice their English skills while learning about the American culture. Students come from many countries and language groups.
WHEN IS ESOL?
ESOL classes are offered Wednesday nights from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Session I runs from September to December.
Session 2 is from February through May.
WHO TEACHES ESOL?
All teachers are unpaid volunteers who want to help you learn to speak better English.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
All classes are free. Students will be asked to purchase a textbook cost $25.00 – $35.00.

DOES ESOL HAVE CHILDCARE?
During the classes there will be free childcare for student’s children who are ages birth to 12 years old.
FLUENCY LEVEL CLASSES
Students assemble for classes in groups arranged by student fluency level. Students are given placement tests to determine which fluency level class will fit each student best.
English Reading Class
For those who need help in reading English.
For those who do not speak any English.
For those who speak very little English.
For those who know enough English to “get by”.
For those who want to improve their English pronunciation and accent. For those who want to feel more comfortable speaking at work, at school and in the community.

ESOL WEATHER POLICY
Our ESOL weather policy is to follow the weather alerts announced for Baltimore County School. When Baltimore County Schools are closed due to bad weather, there will not be any ESOL classes that same evening.
